Eric and Ashley – a riverside wedding

As I enter the home stretch of my pregnancy, I’ve invited others to guest blog their decorating experiences here. A huge thanks to Matt, who works with a florist in New York. Any others interested in guest blogging their decorating experiences, friends’ weddings or just want to ruminate on their favorite decorating trends should shoot me an email at darleene -at- weddingdecoratorblog.com. Merry Christmas!

Hello everyone!

My name is Matt, and I am very excited to be guest posting for you today.

I work at a florist in Upstate New York, and this summer I had the opportunity to do an amazing wedding and reception at one of our client’s summer house in the beautiful Thousand Islands.

The wedding arch (pre chair set up)

The wedding was to be outside with a wedding arch. Here is the arch, mainly taken to show the gorgeous background- the St. Lawrence River. (This was taken before the chairs were set up.)

The arch and surrounding landscaping

A close-up to show the surrounding landscaping.

The wedding arch

A full shot of the arch. The bride had given us the challenge of doing a wedding in October using a nontraditional fall palette of peach, navy blue, baby blue, ivory, magenta and green shades. The flower selections were rose, spray rose, stock, waxflower, delphinium, hydrangea, fresh wheat, millet, seeded eucalyptus, and mixed greens.

It was forecast to rain the day of the wedding, and as we were setting up it still wasn’t clear if the rain would stay away long enough for the wedding, but it did. Just before the procession,  the sun even appeared!

the bridesmaids

The bridesmaids- again notice the gorgeous background!

Some of the reception tables all set up. At this wedding there was no head table. Eric and Ashley were simply going to mingle for a while with each of the guest tables.

Table centerpiece

One of the reception table centerpieces. Ashley and Eric were from Maine, and since the wedding was also being held on the river, we decided to incorporate shells into the bottom of the centerpieces, and also on the tables.

A closeup.

The buffet table

The buffet table – again notice the shells in the bottom of the vases and on the table.

The cake table

The cake table. The cake wasn’t what they had ordered, but considering that every wedding has at least one thing go wrong, I’d say they were lucky that their one problem was something as minor as the cake! The vases on the table behind the cake were for the bridesmaid’s bouquets after the wedding.

  1. wow this is so beautiful! My wedding was mostly DIY, I saved so much money. For my gift registry I used a site, agreataffair.com, that let me register for anything. My husband and I even had a way for people to donate for our honeymoon or payments for our new home! It was great and saved us even more money!
