Fall wedding inspiration

Saturday is the first day of fall. Fall is a lovely time for a wedding — not only are the days and nights cooler, but the colors are spectacular.

When you think of fall weddings, the color orange jumps to mind, but a fall wedding can incorporate shades of red, yellow and green as well. With trees turning colors during fall — it does happen in Los Angeles, contrary to belief, but I’ve heard that this process is even more dramatic on the East Coast — orange and red leaves inspire many autumn weddings. But that shouldn’t be all.

For example, the photo above is of a reception at a camp in Rhode Island. I love it — even whatever beverage is in the champagne glasses is helping bring together the feeling of an autumn wedding. The centerpieces are so elegant, yet simple — dried leaves on branches, with votives hanging off of them, inside a trumpet vase filled with rocks. Maybe the elements by themselves aren’t very elegant, but the whole effect is wonderful. And it all really works in what basically looks like a log cabin.

I like pumpkins. First off, I just love to say the word — pumpkin. It’s fun to say. Second, you can carve it, you can engrave it like the example above, you can put a light inside, you can do so much with it — its very versatile, not to mention pretty cheap. Or you can do nothing at all with it — you can just let it be a pumpkin. And you know what? You can only use pumpkins during the fall.

And honestly, this is a cool looking cake. What, it doesn’t look like a cake? The top three layers are real cake, stacked on top real wood. You can’t have a cake like this during a spring wedding.

A few years ago, this blog’s readers voted October as their favorite wedding month. Is this still the case? Leave me a comment and let me know!
