Flower arrangements with amaranthus

If you love the Secret Garden look when it comes to flowers — you know, sort of like vines everywhere, a little bit wild — then you will probably want to put amaranthus in your floral decorations. Amaranthus looks like a green, but they’re actually flowers, very densely-packed flowers — and this flower also comes in bright, almost magenta, red. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of the red variety. Sorry!

This arrangement takes the wild garden look a little further. Take away the amaranthus and the Bells of Ireland and you’ve got a very nice flower arrangement, with the greens (some cut in fun patterns), the green dendrobium orchids, the white roses and anthurium. But adding the amaranthus and Bells and Ireland adds the hanging element, upping the level of wild garden look. Agree or disagree?

100_8085 A friend of mine attended a wedding at Rancho Las Lomas a few years back and amaranthus was all over it. This was the theater where the ceremony took place — I love the garland all along the entryway and the way the greens hang off the flowers. I almost wish there weren’t a sprig of greens behind each bunch of amaranthus hanging down — it looks almost too perfect.

100_8095Here’s a closeup of one of the pew arrangements. It looks simple but its not — it’s made up of a little bouquet of white and orange roses, yellow and orange variegated tulips, coffee berries and amaranthus. It’s got a nice tail of English ivy and is tied together with a nice organza bow with long tails.

100_8097Flanking the center aisle at the ceremony were these topiary candle arrangements, with more orange and white flowers, coffee berries, orange and yellow variegated tulips, what looks like stephanotis and amaranthus.
