Flowers for a royal wedding

As we all know, if there was ever a #1 priority here at Wedding Decorator Blog, it would be flowers. So when it comes to the royal wedding (just 10 days to go!), what will the flowers look like????

Apparently, its a tradition for the bridal bouquet to be massive. Just check out Lady-turned-Princess Diana’s bridal bouquet for her wedding in 1981.

That’s a big bouquet. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would have had to lift weights to get ready to hold that size bouquet all day long. Plus, it was halfway to the ground!

Anyway, in my research, what I’ve been able to pick up is that florist Simon Lycett will be among three florists who will decorate Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Apparently, he’s no stranger to royal weddings, according to one of the thank you notes that he put up on his website (under “Press” for some reason):

“I am just writing to say how universally admired your flower arrangements were at the reception following the marriage of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on Saturday.   They were quite magnificent and made an immense contribution to the decoration and atmosphere of the reception”

Deputy Master of the Household
Windsor Castle

Mr. Lycett has some amazing photos on his site that I couldn’t resist. Check it out.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve never seen long tables done so beautifully, at least not here in the U.S. Is it a British specialty? Its especially impressive since the flowers along the perimeter of the room nearly overwhelm the architecture of the room — not easy to do, just look at how ornate that room is. I love the huge arrangements and I have no doubt that there will be similarly-sized arrangements all around Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.

And those reception flowers — I love the branch-looking stem of the topiary. It’s so simple! It’s like a flowering tree rising out of a flower bed. Heheh.

At any rate, we don’t know exactly what her flowers will look like till the day of the wedding, of course. Luckily, they plan to leave their wedding flowers at Westminster Hall so that the public can enjoy them as well. How nice of them! However, if there are aisle decorations, I highly doubt those will be left behind — I’m sure Westminster Hall will require those be cleaned up.
