Get married in a medieval castle

My mind was blown when I recently learned about an actual castle not far from where I live where you can hold parties and — of course — weddings. Now, you can indulge your fantasies about being queen on your wedding day or playing Catherine Middleton without having to get your passport updated.

The castle is located in Calabasas, and no, its not one of the houses belonging to the Kardashian clan. (ba rump bump!) The owner of the home is Denise Antico-Donlon, and she was inspired to build Lobo Castle after a trip to Scotland.

You can read more about the castle’s history for yourself, but here’s what you need to know about it now. The castle is not open to tours (that’s the first thing I wondered when I learned of its existence), but there is a regular schedule of cooking classes held here, and it is open to photo shoots. As for weddings, if you’re looking for a venue for 300 people or more, you’re out of luck at Lobo Castle — max capacity is 250.

It’s hours are Friday through Sunday, all year round — which make sense, since the weather in Calabasas is only bad during the later summer and fall, when its really hot. The prices for renting this castle are pretty straightforward — $5,000 for renting the castle, a $1,500 refundable cleaning fee, a $500 rental insurance fee and $500 for an on site, day of coordinator. Everything else seems to be negotiable. You can bring in your own caterer, for a fee.

It’s pretty pricey, sure. But pricier than renting out an actual Scottish castle, a lá Madonna and Guy Ritchie? Not all!
