Hang decorations from the ceiling

Sometimes, the ceilings of reception halls and hotel ballrooms are ugly. So having some decorations up high is nice, gives your guest something interesting to look out when they pass out from dancing so much at your wedding (hopefully!).

For example, I love this dance floor from The Prop Factory out of Boston. It appears that they erected this open canopy over the dance floor in order to hang varying sizes of red, white, pink and purple paper daisies. If you’re wondering how they got the flowers to hang over the open area, I am betting they hung clear fishing line in a grid over the dance floors so they could hang more flowers. So nice!

Check out these Christmas ornaments hanging from ribbon — very Christmasy, but at the same time, perfect for a festive wedding. (See why I always say shop for your wedding decorations around Christmastime?) This party was in a tent, so I think they also used clear fishing line here. I bet they hung all the ribbons onto the fishing line first, then mounted the fishing line from the ceiling of the tent. It hides the ugliness of the tent ceiling, right?

This is an awesome dance floor. I adore paper lanterns, and the mix of different sizes of white lanterns, plus the red lanterns is even more awesome. A set up like this allows you to keep the lights above the dance floor on, but the lights are still diffused because they’re shining through the lanterns. The caveat here is that the lanterns probably had to be hung by the staff of the venue, who would need to use their ladders and their own hanging equipment for their ceiling.

This ceiling is pretty interesting, but I can see why they would want to soften it up a bit with Christmas lights in what appears to be tulle. There’s probably many ways to replicate this, but my guess is that they twined tulle over the lights before hanging them. It’s a lot of work, but then you get this effect!

  1. I absolutely love these ideas. Im helping to decorate at my brother’s wedding and would love to try this, especially the chinese lantern idea or the daisies.
