Unique candle decorations for your guest tables

In my time decorating weddings, candles on guest tables are mostly sitting inside a glass votive and sometimes go unlit. What a waste! I’m of the opinion that if you’re going to spend money on it, make it stand out. So I bring you some ideas on how to put candles on your guests’ tables, thanks to Flickr.

Candlelight, if you think about it, already makes itself stand out. So if you do a little to it, it stands out a lot. The caption on this photo even tells you how — use a shot glass instead of a glass votive, put some colorful (in this case, purple) rocks in the glass and sit the candle on top. Voila! Custom candlelight.

Create your own lacy candle covers

Probably the most frequent comment, question and/or request I get is how to replicate this look.

My answer is always the same — I don’t know. I found the photo on Flickr and included it on an old post about unique candle decorations, and, unfortunately, that means I didn’t create these candle covers myself. However, seeing as how its also this site’s most popular pinned image, I figured — why not try to find out how to do this?

Handmade candle covers on Etsy

One of my most popular posts on Pinterest is one about candle decorations, in particular one image of several candles in glass hurricanes, covered with lace. So I thought to myself — are there any other candle covers online that a bride can use? So I turned to Etsy.

When my husband looked over to see what I was blogging about, he remarked that this candle cover was really nice. It’s very classy and chic, perfect for a black and white wedding, if that’s what you’ve done. These look pricey, but they come in a batch of 30 (15 vase, 15 votive) for $75.

Candle and lantern guest table centerpieces

Candles, lanterns, Christmas lights — they all add ambiance to a wedding. Whenever you can, you should incorporate some kind of light with your decorations. So I scoured Flickr for a few ideas on how to get a lighting element onto your guest tables.

The arrangement above is your wedding magazine-ready type candle arrangement. It’s got the pretty pastel pink and cream roses, orchids and the silvery lantern with the stars on the windows. I can’t quite tell, but it looks like this venue was possibly on a patio, so maybe an arrangement like this wouldn’t have as much impact as some of the others I found. Continue reading

Save lots on candles at Big Lots

So everyone is trying to save money, right? One way to save money is to go without flowers and just set up a candle arrangement. But if you’re not careful, you could spend just as much on a candle arrangement as you would on flowers. So I suggest you visit your local Big Lots.

Is Big Lots a store you wouldn’t be caught dead in? Too bad…whenever it comes time to do Christmas decorating at my church, Big Lots is my first stop. Turns out, its a good spot to find candles and candle accessories too, for cheap.
