Tons of flowers, even kale, at the Huntington Beach Hyatt

This post starts with photos of the church. I’ve decorated this church dozens of times (I actually grow up in this church).

There was no draping; instead, my brother and his design partner custom made these stands of branches and put sprigs of hydrangeas on top and on the bottom. One arrangement was placed at the opening of each row along the aisle.

Here’s a closeup of the aisle arrangements.

I’ve never worked with trees like these before, and with good reason — they were custom made for this wedding. My brother’s design partner, Sophia Truong, found someone to cut down these trees and mount them. Once we got them in place, we wired orchids to the branches. This was the one I happened to have done, heheh.

The guest table centerpieces varied between one big box, two-medium sized boxes and three varying sizes of boxes of flowers.

The boxes, interestingly, are custom made — Sophia found someone to make all of them. Flowers in the arrangements include greenish white spider and button mums, wax flowers, coffee beans, purple stock, white hydrangea and, of course, the purple and green kale leaves.

This is the sweetheart table arrangement. You can see its a long rectangle, compared to the cubes on the guest tables.

And the cake table. My brother actually used kale to decorate the cake table, plus a few purple blossoms and green button mums.

This wedding was actually very simple, but the flowers were pretty awesome. The amount of custom work astounded me, and I’m pretty impressed that it all seemed to go off without a hitch.

Am I selling my brother short? Not at all! I think I simply just didn’t realize just how awesome his work was until now!
