I should’ve known this was coming. My friend Michelle (a blogger/journalist hybrid like myself) is much more of a trendsetter than I am, so I should’ve known, when I blogged about how she created her own photobooth for her wedding a few years ago, that it would be come a trend.
Photobooths have taken off, but they’re expensive. So, seeing as how people can be innovative when it comes to saving money, DIY photobooths — basically a wall set up so you can take photos in front of it — have taken off, and there’s no sign of that trend abating.
I’ve done plenty of backdrops, but they’ve all been for behind sweetheart tables, head tables and cake tables — there’s less traffic in front of these backdrops, so you can use fluffy material like organza.
But for a photo wall, or a photobooth background or backdrop, you can really do anything. On Pinterest, I’ve seen a curtain of ribbons, a variety of paper garlands, even old, weathered doors set up so you can take photos in front. I’d even consider using a whole bunch of removable wall decals — you’d never use them like that at home, but they look totally fun in pictures.

Are you thinking of having a photo wall or creating your own photobooth backdrop? Don’t forget to either buy/rent a tripod for your camera and for even more fun, bring your own printer so everyone can see their pictures on site and take them home. The entire cost of doing your own photobooth will end up being much cheaper than an actual photobooth service, I guarantee.
Do you think DIY photobooths will be hot in 2013? If you think I’m nuts, let me know in the comments. For a hint of what else I think will be hot in 2013, check out my 2013 Wedding board on Pinterest.
