Trends In 2013: Rainbow wedding theme

Whilst reading the tea leaves on Pinterest, it seems to me that there are some brides out there who really don’t want to settle on one color when it comes to their wedding. Instead, they seem to want to go with a rainbow theme, but with different details — bridesmaid dresses and shoes, jewelry, decorations and especially cakes. Who has the ovaries to go this route? I don’t know anyone personally, but judging by the photos out there, there are more than a few brave brides who incorporate the whole rainbow into their wedding.

As an aside, I was actually talking with a coworker about this topic, and impressed her by singing the colors of the rainbow, thanks to a ditty from The Cat In The Hat cartoon on PBS. So, what are the colors of the rainbow? Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The Cat in the Hat indeed knows a lot about that!

A very, very long time ago, I remember helping my mom do a last minute wedding (as in, the bride booked my mom a WEEK in advance) that happened to be rainbow themed. I don’t recall what flowers my mom used, but what left an impression on me was the rainbow ribbon. I didn’t like it. If I were advising you on how to pull off a rainbow-themed wedding, I’d point you in the direction of some of these photos I found on Flickr.

Chunky necklaces in a rainbow of stones, different color ribbons on each tier of a simple white cake making up a rainbow, even rainbow garlands and pinwheels – those are decorations I can get on board with. And you can also incorporate the rainbow of colors on different details — a flower girl’s sash or floral circlet, or your bridesmaids shoes, if you happen to have that many bridesmaids.

And don’t forget the balloons. If you’re doing a rainbow theme, take the extra step and incorporate balloons. Its a natural progression.

What do you think about this prediction? Think I’m crazy for thinking a rainbow theme will be hot in 2013? Leave me a comment and put me on blast! To check out what else I think will be a wedding trend in 2013, check out my 2013 Wedding board on Pinterest.
