Vintage wedding look

This is a special post to me. I met this bride, Mayra, while worked together at our college newspaper. The woman is an amazing news photographer. Since we all parted ways in college, she’s gone on to become a photographer at the Houston Chronicle (where we found out how small a world it truly is — she ended up working with a former coworker of mine!), and has done amazing things like being an embedded photographer in Iraq. Apparently, that’s where she met the man she married on Dec. 26, in a truly romantic ceremony that looks straight out of a 1940s photo album, complete with the groom in military uniform!
All photos are courtesy of Helen Montoya Photography out of San Antonio, TX. This post, by the way, is helped by the fact that Helen blogged the wedding and shed light on a few details. I’ve been in contact with Mayra, of course, but that woman is busy!

I worked with Mayra on a few big projects in college, so I got to know her pretty well at that time. And I’ll also never forget that she sent flowers for my mother’s funeral. She’s a wonderful, thoughtful lady.

However, she is a busy woman, so her wedding was small and sweet — I am so down with that! Her big thing was finding the right vintage-looking dress, and I got a little help on that info from the Chronicle’s Shop Girl.

That beautiful, perfect vintage-looking cream dress and veil came from a San Antonio store called BHLDN. She borrowed that cool white fur capelet from the blogger. I’m sure her groom was highly pleased to see his embedded journalist bride could clean up so nicely!

And if you were wondering, the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere were all white mini calla lilies.

All in all, it looked like a perfect, romantic day. No muss, no fuss, and no getting into debt! (Now, that’s how you start a life together!)

And by the way, when a stellar news photographer decides to choose a certain photographer for her wedding, that’s like a double recommendation. Kudos to Helen Montoya!
