Wedding Venue: CBS Radford Lot in Studio City

If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, or even read the About page, you already know I’m neither a full-time wedding decorator or wedding blogger. My day job (so to speak, since I work the night shift) is online news production for CBS 2 / KCAL 9. So I happen to work at the Studio City Broadcast Center, which is located on CBS’ Radford Lot, where it so happened a reception was happening one recent Saturday.

Of course, being as nosy as I am, I had to peek in, see how it was done, and of course, take pictures. It happened to be a somewhat slow news day, so I was able to use my breaks to indulge my nosiness….er, I mean, curiosity. FYI, I just want to make it clear these are not my decorations or flowers. I’ll give you the florist’s information at the end of this post.

This was by no means the first wedding I’ve seen on the lot, but maybe the first I’ve seen between the lot’s bungalows, which I’ve always referred to as the neighborhood. The fun thing about working on an active lot is that the scenery changes — there is a permanent New York street, my part of the lot is often turned into a university quad when Greek is shooting and I once saw the bridge over the L.A. River in an episode of CSI:NY (I remembered it because the night they were shooting, they held me up as I left work). So it surprises me that there haven’t been more wedding receptions here. I mean, isn’t that part of the fun of living in Southern California?

I of course introduced myself to the florist. I didn’t want to be one of those annoying people who took pictures of other people’s work without at least telling them I appreciate their work. She was fine with me taking pictures, but asked that I come back when everything was finished. Of course!

As you can see, the centerpieces were metal stands that branched out. The bottoms were already placed with white hydrangeas and greens. I have a fuzzy picture of the finished arrangement coming right up!

In the meantime, I checked out the set up. It appeared to be a medium-sized party, maybe 20 tables. There were heaters everywhere, which was a good thing, since it was pretty chilly that night. The chairs were covered in satiny white seat covers and tied with either white or silver organza sashes. Like I said before, seat covers really change the look of a party.

The florist told me they didn’t set up the buffet tables, but they were pretty cool too. This buffet arrangement is obviously not flowers. It reminds me a lot of the crystal tree decorations I saw at the Biltmore at Christmas.

So I did return later that night, when the party was just getting started. One nice touch was that they set up a red carpet. Yes. If you have your wedding reception at a studio lot, you must have a red carpet. And maybe recruit some friends to play paparazzi.

I came back as all the guests were seated and enjoying some drinks. I had tried to come back before all the guests arrived, but hey — I did have to work. But you can’t deny the coolness of the party. It was outdoors, with plenty of heat warmers, in front of what I swear is the facade that served as the house shown in the beginning of Everybody Loves Raymond.

Further down, you can see the dance floor, and beyond that, the band. It cracked me up to see the street decked out so much, since its often used as a spot for relaxing during the day.

Here’s that fuzzy picture I promised. No wonder the florist wanted me to come back — the centerpiece was topped off with an arrangement of white hydrangeas, Casablanca lilies, dendrobium orchids and other white flowers, and the tea lights in crystals hung from the branches. Very pretty.

And the very nice florist, as I promised, was Elaine Blancaflor Quadra, with locations in Canyon Country (18038 Flynn Drive, 5304) and Woodland Hills (5338 Topanga Cyn. Blvd.). To get in touch with them, call (818) 624-0949 or (818) 624-8217, or email whiteflowers @ att.net. As for pricing at my studio — I couldn’t tell ya. I can try to call and find out while I’m at work, but I give no guarantees. However, you can peruse the lot’s website here.

  1. I just wanted to thank you for posting these pictures and comments about my wedding. You really made me and my husband feel special. That evening was so beautiful and I’m glad you were there to witness it.

  2. Hi Darleene,
So nice to see your site and blog. We are the caterer for the Studio and the set up was done by our crew.
Would be nice to meet you one of these days in person. I didn’t know you work on the lot too.
    Nice pictures….

  4. I’m very familiar with the CBS Radford Lot. 12 years ago when I got married, I suggested NY Street for our reception. We both loved the idea. The only sticking point was hat we could be preempted if a production needed the street. We looked at the adjacent room in the commissary but in the long run we settled for Maggiano’s!
