What does your color say about you?

My husband is a designer at our local newspaper here and quite honestly is where I’ve learned any and all graphics and design expertise, especially when it comes to programs like Photoshop and InDesign, which is how I created the above logo. Yesterday, he was telling me about Colorscope, a color palette like a horoscope. He told me that description for the color he liked the best really corresponded to his personality.

When it comes to weddings, I don’t think too many brides really think about the meaning or personality attached to the colors they choose — either its simply a favorite color or they know they look best in that color, or both. But still, I think its an interesting exercise. For example, above, I used a darker pink organza that I might describe as dusty rose. Probably the closest corresponding color on the colorscope would be Strawberry, which carries the following personality:

You are very lucky with opportunities appearing like magic. You are an enchanter, attracting people to you. You are open and enthusiastic.

Interesting eh?

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve used orange to decorate a wedding. (You might recognize this photo from my header logo; this wedding was at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City.) On the colorscope, I’d say this is Poppy:

You are a dedicated party girl who hides the sensitive side of yourself. You are sentimental. Although you are pessimistic about your personal dreams, you are incredibly skilled at innovation. You are fearless in your dress and put together the most unusual combinations.

OK, one last example, lest I look like I’m using this as an excuse to post pictures. Ahem. I might describe this color as Violet or Grape, but I think its closer to Grape:

Your friends know that you are the shoulder to cry on. With inexhaustible energy, you are a great team builder. Love relationships are very important, but usually you are the more supportive and unappreciated half.

My husband liked Night — a dark, navy blue color — the most, and I have to say, it really did correspond to him. Unfortunately, it’s not available on the site, but I’ll type out what’s on this guide I have in front of me:

You are traditional and reserved on the surface, yet you are a renegade at heart. Your demeanor is steadfast and mysterious. Popularity is not important to you — which makes you all the more enticing to others.

Yup, that’s my husband. As for me, its hard to say which would be the color that corresponds to me closest. Just by looking at the colors, I like Grape the most, but I’m also attracted to Rhubarb, again, not on the colorscope online:

Curious, enthusiastic and easily stimulated you are a magnet for opportunity and every new idea. Be careful not to over-stimulate yourself, but learn to focus.

Rhubarb, fyi, is a dark dusty rose, possibly burgundy color.

  1. My colors say I am loyal to my friends and emotional, also that I am attractive, talkative and have expressive eyes and I crave power and am fun to be with at parties. Hmmmmmm.
