Where to get engaged in L.A.

It’s now that time of year — engagement season! I think, personally, I’ve not known a lot of people who got engaged during the holidays. I think I know one. Anyway, but apparently, this is the time of year for getting down on one knee for several reasons: It’s Christmas and everyone is together. Guys want to give their girls that ultimate gift. And something about an end-of-year deadline (I understand about deadlines).

I highly doubt a lot of guys are surfing the web, looking for ideas on how to propose to their girlfriends. If you are….I feel either one of two ways. A) Good for you and b) how is it that you’re going to ask this woman to spend the rest of your life with you and you don’t know how you’re going to propose to her??! Heheh. That said, if you’re still at a loss, I have a few ideas for you. Strangely enough, they all kind of involve being outdoors, so make sure you both wear a nice warm jacket, but maybe not some gloves, for some warm hand holding. Awww…

I consulted a few sources for ideas on where to get engaged. (As an aside, I did not technically get engaged, but my husband gave me a promise ring atop a dinner boat in Newport Harbor. A year later, we got married. That’s a whole other story…) One article gave a few ideas for where to get engaged, my favorite of which is the hot air balloon rides in Temecula, Del Mar and Napa (I know, technically most of these are not in L.A., but whatever). My favorite idea here was the Ferris Wheel in Santa Monica:

The Santa Monica Pier is a great place to pop the question. You can spend all day soaking up the sun on the beach, then, when the sun starts to set, take a ride on the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier where you can propose to a spectacular sunset, then head on over to Ocean Ave. Seafood for dinner and champagne.

Not surprisingly, Robbins Bros. has a great list of ideas of where to get engaged in California and various other states:

We’ve done the footwork for you. These are all Grade A 100% Romantic places approved by swooning fiancés (just like yours will be soon). You’ll find that our list includes the hot spots within close proximity to the living and breathing Perfect Proposal experts at Robbins Bros. (in Southern California, Houston, and Dallas) who will be your lifeline between now and the time your sweetie says “yes”. Just as the best sports franchise in the NBA, MLB or NFL needs a human coach, so do you as you plan your own season-winning tactics. A virtual help-mate just isn’t enough in our opinion.

One of the suggestions they give that fascinates me is the Standard Hotel in downtown L.A. I’ve never been and have always wanted to check it out — I have a thing for city views.

However, I have not yet had the opportunity to go. I suppose I could just go, but I’d feel silly going there just to go. Maybe I can convince someone to have a party there one day. Heheh.

Another one of the suggestions Robbins Bros. had was Malibu’s Pt. Dume. Heck yeah…

I love me some Malibu, and I especially love Pt. Dume. Remember, if you go, bring a few bucks for parking, although in the winter, its way cheaper and less frenzied than trying to go during the summer. If you go in any of the winter months, really, its like you have the place to yourself. A good excuse if you go — whale watching. Heheh. 🙂

And this was not on any list, but rather, simply a suggestion of my own — the Getty Center.

I adore the architecture, the gardens, the fountains, the views and sometimes even the exhibits at the Getty Center. I could spend all day here. If you go, try for dusk. It also gets cold here, so remember to bring a jacket!
